Exemplary Business Ideas Sought for
Tory C. Marandos Entrepreneurship Challenge

Manchester, NH (May 1, 2012) – Entrepreneurs with exemplary business ideas are invited to submit their concept papers in the 2nd Annual Tory C. Marandos Foundation – Entrepreneurship Challenge being administered by the Center for Women’s Business Advancement beginning today.

“This business plan competition is a wonderful way for entrepreneurs with big ideas to get the seed money they need to move forward with their plans,” said SNHU President Paul LeBlanc. “New Hampshire is home to some innovative and world-renowned companies and we’re hopeful that this competition will allow an emerging class of those businesses to make their mark.”

The competition is named after late entrepreneur Tory Marandos. According to his family, friends and co-workers, he was an enterprising and caring young man who went above and beyond for his friends, family and anyone who came into his life.
All active businesses and potential start-up businesses in New Hampshire, with less than three years in business, are eligible to participate. This year’s competition will kick off on May 1 when interested entrepreneurs can begin submitting a two-page initial business concept paper. After the May 18 submission deadline, a team of judges will choose ten semi-finalists to move on to the next round where business plans will be requested. A group of five finalists will be determined by July 20 and the final competition and award dinner will take place on August 4.

The winning business plan will receive $5,000. This year, a $2,000 second prize will be awarded through the generous funding by the family of Jacques Thibodeau in his loving memory.

Last year, blue2green LLC, a New Hampshire dam reclamation and electricity generation company was the inaugural winner of the Tory C. Marandos Foundation – Entrepreneurship Challenge. Founders Mark Brassard and Andrew Lane received a $5,000 cash
Exemplary Business Ideas Sought for Tory Marandos Entrepreneurship Challenge prize to start and support their business.  blue2green acquires existing, small- and medium-scale hydroelectric dams on behalf of its clients. Those dams, and the electricity they generate, represent a secure source of long-term, annuity income. They also provide numerous tax benefits, as well as additional monthly income from the sale of clean energy through blue2green’s CleanWatt™ electricity aggregation program.
